Sensitization Forum On Girl-Child Education

The sensitization forum was borne out of the societal needs which constitute one of the goals of the foundations. The forum was organized with the sole aim of exhausting all possible challenges and causes of the gap in the girl child education and to provide possible awareness in which these societal challenges can be practically addressed especially through adequate implementation of proffered solutions.

Paper presentations and responses entailed the core of the sensitization forum with a range of speakers and respondents who highlighted and made participants to understand the causes of the gap that existed in the area of the Girl Child Education, it's effects and the possible solutions to the problems.

Some of the challenges highlighted by the resource persons where: The insensitivity of Government in their responsibility; Public Laxity; Religious Beliefts and Cultural Myth; Cost of Education and Poverty; School Environment; Sexual harrassment; Early Marriage; Gender roles and equality; Social Accidents; Inadequate sensitization and awareness fora.

The sensitization forum also made necessary efforts in highlighting the adverse effects of education gap in the girl child on the economy to include issues like: poverty; hunger; child trafficking; mortality; child labour; economic stagnation.

Having discussed the challenges of the gap in Girl Child Educaiton and its adverse effects on her family and economy, solutions were offered by the forum on how to adequately and effectively bridge the gap.

Some of these include among many: Awareness programmes and fora; favourable policies and Gender budgeting; the role of government in good governance; the need to eliminate culture or societal beliefs; deconstruction of early marriages; Teaching the Girl Child her right and boosting her self-worth and advocacy for the Girl Child.
